Business Analyst at Numatic International (Creators of the Henry Vacuum range)
Looking back, how did your time with us prepare you for your career?
The course gave me a wide range of knowledge surrounding business practices, fundamental soft skills which are actively applied and trained in the office environment, a relatively large amount of experience with a range of business and analysis tools (PESTLE, Porter's 5 forces, SWOT, Interviewing), all of which are used to an extent in the business analysis world.
What message would you like to leave for future students?
To be honest, I did not enjoy my A-level and university years; I never felt that doing exams and producing assignments in the way that the exam boards wanted suited me as a person. However, with hindsight, this have been massively worth it and useful in terms of not only getting to where I am now, but also being able to fit in, being able to put myself forwards, and being able to genuinely be a value-add for the business and their brand. If you feel stuck in education, it's worth the wait, hard work, and doing what the examiners are wanting of you. Getting a job you love is incredibly freeing, and PCL and their tutors have been a huge part in that for me.

BA (Hons) Business Management

Looking back, how did your time with us prepare you for your career?
I was able to design my degree to suit my current skillset but also challenge me by opening myself up to the different intricacies within business like operations, strategic management, economics and agile project management. Not only this, but I also acquired core transferrable skills like presenting and project management, which helped me prepare for my current role and my non-profit endeavours.
What message would you like to leave for future students?
You have a range of in-house teams at your disposal who offer their bespoke expertise and strive to progress you further professionally, academically and more importantly personally. Having tutors who work in industry and with a plethora of experience, exposes you to the realness of business, where theory becomes practical reality. Remember, don't let your grades define you, unless it is the only thing you can bring to the table.
Alessandro Carloni - EMEA Mid-Market SDR at Monotype - February 2023

Which course did you study?
BA (Hons) Business Management
Where are you working now?
EMEA Mid-Market SDR at Monotype
Looking back, how did your time with us prepare you for your career?
The course has provided a broad overview on topics such as economics, finance and law, allowing me to grasp essential concepts that make up the foundation of any business and of the market it operates in, whilst exploring in more depth subjects such as marketing, strategic innovation and technology applied to real-life scenarios. All of this newly acquired knowledge was somehow pivotal for my career progression because it guided through the selection of the industry I wanted to be in, it helped me win over the interview process and also in real-life business decisions I am making with my clients and for the company I work for.
What message would you like to leave for future students?
I would suggest to all the new students to be extremely curious and always challenge theirs and others’ opinion. To look over the mainstream way of thinking and use the academic playground as a safe space to push intellectual boundaries without the fear of being judged. On a more practical point, I would say to attend lectures and seminars as much as possible, sit on the front row and make themselves memorable for the tutor they esteem the most, because it is important for students to find a mentor or simply bond with a professor that stimulates them intellectually. Get involved with extracurricular activities and make friends with people they wouldn't normally hang out with. To strive to achieve always more than what they think they can, deserve or believe society has deemed for them to achieve and not to be afraid of looking smug or confident while doing so, because there is nothing honourable in being mediocre.
