3D VFX Online Taster Course

• You'll be given an overview of the visual effects industry and what it’s like to work as a Visual Effects Artist.
• Learn the basics of industry-standard software Maya.
• Develop basic skills used within Maya, such as modelling, texturing, lighting and shading. 
• Discover what’s like to pursue a career in 3D VFX.
• This course is hosted by Smashcut, an online learning platform. Technical support will also be available to you throughout the course.
  

Lessons

• Overview to the CGI industry - roles, studios, departments
• Creating simple geometry 
• UVs
• Texturing
• Bump maps
• Lighting
• Animation
• Basic compositing
• Rendering

Project and feedback

• You will be given the opportunity to work on a project that you can upload to the platform upon completion of the course, and receive feedback from a tutor.
  

Software

• Autodesk Maya (see here for technical requirements on using Maya).

Duration

• The course takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to complete, and it is recommended that you complete it within 4 weeks*. 
• Up to 2 additional weeks will be required to receive feedback from a tutor 
  
  *If you use the free trial version of Maya, you will only have access to the software for 4 weeks
  

You must be over 18 to sign up for the 3D VFX taster course.

The course is delivered in English. Although there are no specific entry requirements, we recommend having a good understanding of written and spoken English and to feel comfortable using a computer.
