Marc Godfrey

What course did you study?

The first one was Maya Core – a part-time evening course, but I keep coming back to do more!

What are you working on at the moment?

A CBeebies TV show called Tree Fu Tom.

What's your favourite animated character and why?

Garfield. Growing up I was obsessed with Garfield and the cartoon "Garfield and Friends". Jim Davis quickly became an early hero of mine. I love his ability to show emotion and tell a story with a character's minimal movement, and often just few blinks and flicks of the eyes.

What is your favourite animation and why?

I really like what Pixar did with the way they handled weight in "Knick Knack", in particular showing the difference between being in and out of water (or a snowglobe, in this case). Also, I love the work that Disney did on "Paperman" and the blending of traditional and computer animation - the result was beautiful, I thought.

If you had to sum up your time at Escape Studios in one word, what would it be and why??

What lessons have you learnt during your time studying and your time working in VFX?

Clear, concise and effective communication across all departments is vital.

What is your advice for those considering entering the industry?

Do it. You’re never too old to start a career in the industry. I gave up a good career in Marketing, to pursue more creative passions in the animation industry and I haven’t looked back.

My time at Escape Studios was inspiring.
