Kim's passion for films and visual effects (VFX) started from a young age, where he was intrigued by the effects in films such as Jurassic Park and The Matrix. "I found myself asking how can this be done and wanted to get involved."
Compositing for Production (12 weeks)
Inspired by lectures in Computer Graphics (CG) and Visual Effects at University spurred me to embark on a career in VFX. I started in the industry as a freelance Motion Graphics Artist gaining experience in After Effects.
What are you working on at the moment?
I currently work as a Digital Compositor and I am responsible for the integration of various elements on a scene; ensuring all parts of the shot gives the illusion that everything has been filmed through the same lens and camera. Work is really diverse too depending on the projects; spanning from full CG shots to invisible effects. I've worked on some major projects including Iron Man 3, 127 Hours and John Carter. I love my job because it gives me endless possibilities to do different things.
How did studying at Escape Studios help you into the world of VFX?
I chose to study Advanced Compositing at Escape which allowed me to hone my skills in a hands-on manner. The specialised teaching gave me all the necessary tools to get into the industry and Escape's relationship with VFX studios within London provided me with the best possible start.
