Course studied?

Maya for VFX

What’s your favourite movie and why?

‘Enter the Void’.  It’s an incredible moving story with a very unique visual style and of course, the VFX and graphics are incredible.

What are you working on at the moment?

After finishing my course in March 2007, I spent time working in the Escape Pods. After completing my showreel I freelanced at Smoke and Mirrors before Escape's recruitment department placed me at Framestore. I freelanced for a short time and had a permanent position as CSC Media (now part of Sony Entertainment) and the as a 2D and 3D Motion Graphics designer at Greyworks/ Grey London. Which is where I am currently working now.

If you had to sum up your time at Escape Studios in one word what would it be and why?

Awesome. I was learning to do something that I was really excited and passionate about and I had a great support network in the form of the other students and the tutors and staff at Escape.

How did studying at Escape Studios help you into the world of VFX?

I learnt the basics of 3D lighting, animation, texturing and rendering which I still use daily in my current job. After learning these basics I was able to improve and refine my skills in 3D.

What lessons have you learnt during your time studying and your time working in VFX?

Learn from your mistakes. You will always make them but store away all the lessons that you will learn in order to ensure you don’t make the same mistakes again.

What is your advice for those considering entering the industry?

Think carefully about what it is you want from the course. It's highly rewarding but also labour intensive and requires commitment and hard work. I don't think I'd be where I am today if I hadn't put in 110 %. I believe that risks are always worth taking if you have the passion and determination to succeed.
