Valerie Amato

Being passionate about education and highly committed to life-long learning, Valérie contributes her international cross-sector expertise to the design and delivery of higher education programmes for business schools and other academia based in Europe, focusing on international business and systems change.

Valérie Amato studied and/or worked in four different countries (including in Europe and South Africa), holds a Masters in Management from ESCP Business School (Paris, Oxford, Berlin) and an MSc in Development Management from the Open University. Her 30 year career spans international finance (advising on and structuring debt finance for corporate and sovereign clients in Europe and Africa), international development (as the first CEO of an international NGO operating in Afghanistan and Central Asia) and cross-sector strategic partnerships (advising academia, businesses and international NGOs on their stakeholder engagement and collaboration strategies).

Recent Activity

  • Summer 2021: Taught Critical Thinking, Study Skills & Communication, and Globalisation to International Students at Foundation level (London International Colleges of St Mary’s University and University for Creative Arts) and Sustainability and Purposeful Business to Degree Apprentices (3rd Year Undergraduates) at Pearson Business School
  • Spring 2021: As Module Leader, delivered the following 4 courses online: Sustainability and Purposeful Business, International Business Regions 1 (China), 2 (Latin America) and 3 (Africa) to Pearson Business School students
  • Summer/Autumn 2020: Led and delivered the following courses: “Change Management” for ESCP Business School Postgraduates (MSc Digital Transformation), Sustainability and Purposeful Business for Pearson Business School (BA) and “International Factors” for SIBE/Steinbeis University Berlin (online MA/MBA)
  • Academic Years 2018/2021: Supervised the Masters Theses of International Students of different origins (including Germany, Poland, Egypt, Syria, China and India) (SIBE/Steinbeis University Berlin) and sat on the Examination Panels for Presentations in English by German and Indian students (ESCP Business School and its international university partners)


Not-for-profit Leadership Experience: International development expertise and business and financial skills applied in a leadership, teaching and advisory capacity (with a focus on sustainable development)

International Finance Career: 15 years debt advisory and finance expertise in major international banks originating, managing and successfully closing high profile and complex deals for corporate and sovereign clients; significant Emerging Markets experience, including in Sub-Saharan Africa
