Starting with locomotion, looking at how and why a character moves, through to the basic principles of posing the body and hands, before moving on to look at acting for animation. You'll be shown how to understanding the basics of what makes good and not so good acting and you will learn how gesture works in animation.

Once these points have been covered it’s time to explore the planning process. You'll find out what planning involves in a modern feature animation before you plan a shot for yourself. Then you will learn about the different blocking techniques. What are the different styles of blocking? How do you block dialogue, action, multiple scenes and characters? Next you'll learn about Facial Design and animation where you will cover the finer points of good facial design and how you animate it. Once all this has been covered it’s time to learn about that last 5% that makes your work come alive and at this point you'll find out what it takes to really polish a shot.

Day two, with Kyle, is all about story, character and emotion.

Taking story as a foundation you will deconstruct story from it’s larger parts, acts and sequences to its smaller parts, shots and beats.  Come to understand all the thresholds that mark the changes between these moments.  Using the “Hero’s Journey”you'll  learn how to ground your work in the key themes that underpin the story and character dynamic. What are the Major themes in character?  Explore the classic archetypes and find out how to craft new characters, introduce and develop them, and complete their stories.

Gain the skills to make people care about your character and invest in them. Learn about avoiding cliché and delivering a credible conclusion. Once you have your character find out how to show what they are feeling and how to use the camera and the character’s relationship to it to enhance emotional engagement.
