Escape 72 Hours Film Project

Escape Studios 72 Hour Film Project

Last month, we asked budding filmmakers to take part in Escape Studio’s first ever short film competition #Escape72Hours. In this race against the clock, our teams had to put their skills to the test to create the best VFX short film to fit the theme ‘Crossover’ in just 72 hours. Our stellar line-up of judges included VFX supervisor Steve Begg (Casino Royale, Skyfall) Andy McNamara from Deluxe’s Rushes (Spectre), and 3D Artist Editor Stephen Holmes.

We would love to officially announce that the winner of the film project is Team Simon with their short film ‘The Last Shuttle’!

Escape 72 Hours Film Project

This fantastic entry was a hit with our judges, ticking all the boxes across the judging criteria; which included ensuring all films included a specific line of dialogue and a character, which in this case was a criminal mastermind.

Andy McNamara of Rushes remarked on the entry ‘I think they’ve done exceptionally well in the time, they did a great job with resources and made a good stab at the VFX with an interesting interpretation of the ‘Crossover’ brief’. With Stephen Holmes from 3DArtist commenting, ‘Using a drone to achieve shots that would cost thousands to put together in more traditional ways (i.e. a crane) was inspired and really contributes to the overall quality of the film.’

The winning film was praised with excellent execution, especially considering the short timescale. The methods of filming were ‘inspired’ and contributed to the quality of the film. Steve Begg noted ‘The harsh light, colour, and photographic composition all added to the overall atmosphere of the film’. The judging panel also looked at the all-important VFX elements. Stephen Holmes found the winning film was well modelled, well lit and well integrated. The VFX elements being very professional, and the motion graphics strong overall enhancing the project.

Overall our judges loved this short film and commended Team Simon for all their hard efforts, which paid off in this exceptional and unique piece of filmmaking content. The winning team will receive an exclusive premiere screening to key industry names at Escape Studios The VFX Festival 2017. Team Simon will also be interviewed for a feature in 3D Artist and the members will be granted an exclusive master class with one of Escape Studios expert tutors, where they will receive advice from one of the most experienced talents in the industry. Finally, they will be granted access to the brand new Escape Studios facilities in London to help them develop the winning film further.

Massive congratulations to Team Simon! If you would like to view the winning film on the big screen you can buy tickets to the VFX Festival here: www.thevfxfestival.com
