Ian Livingstone CBE, Paul Franklin and Eamonn Butler sponsor new VFX, Games and Animation full fee scholarships for September 2017
Escape Studios, Europe’s leading VFX academy, part of Pearson College London, are thrilled to announce the launch of three brand new scholarship programmes sponsored by industry leaders, including OSCAR® winning VFX supervisor Paul Franklin, BAFTA winning games developer Ian Livingstone CBE, and renowned animator and Head of Animation at Cinesite Eamonn Butler, to help educate and nurture the next generation of British grown talent.
The winner of each scholarship will have their tuition fee paid in full. These winners will be handpicked by the three sponsors from the finalists in each category. In addition, Escape Studios will offer bursaries to students who come from areas with traditionally low participation rates in Higher Education. This is part of a commitment to help students, who may not progress into Higher Education otherwise, and to recognise potential and nurture talent, regardless of background or circumstances.
The Eamonn Butler Scholarship for Animation is a full tuition fee scholarship awarded to one applicant for the BA/MArt (Hons) The Art of Computer Animation degree at Escape Studios. Eamonn Butler started his career at Walt Disney Animation Studios as a 2D Animator and spent 10 years at the Studio, comments,
“I am delighted to support Escape Studios and offer their Animation course to a talented individual, even more so one that may not have had access to this opportunity otherwise. It’s fantastic to be working alongside Paul and Ian to give great breadth of opportunity across the spectrum of the moving image in video games, animation and VFX. The Ian Livingstone Scholarship for Game Art is a full tuition fee scholarship awarded to one applicant for the BA/MArt (Hons) The Art of Video Games degree at Escape Studios. Ian Livingstone CBE, is best known for being the man behind huge franchises such as Tomb Raider, and is one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry. Ian comments,
“It is a great privilege for me to be working with Escape Studios in offering this arts education scholarship to the next generation of game makers. It will give somebody who has dreamt of working in the games industry, or starting his or her own studio, a real chance of achieving their ambition. The Paul Franklin Scholarship for VFX is a full tuition fee scholarship awarded to one applicant for the BA/MArt (Hons) The Art of Visual Effects degree at Escape Studios. BAFTA and Academy Award winner Paul Franklin has worked on some of the most memorable and successful films of recent times, titles such as Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Paul adds:
"Nurturing the next generation of British talent is very important to me, and it's an honour to be able to work with Escape Studios who so brilliantly supports this. Throughout my career I've been privileged to work behind the camera with some amazing and incredibly hard-working visual effects artists - they come from all sorts of different types of backgrounds and the quality that unites them is creative passion. To be able to give a gifted student the chance to study with Escape Studios - an opportunity that they might otherwise not have - is very exciting.
