Bringing Inner Superheroes to Life

Escapee (Escape Studios Alumni), Roy Pecker, brings to life the GOSHxSuperhope project in partnership with not-for-profit initiative Superhope, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), Escape Studios and a number of partners from across the UK’s creative industries.

The Superhope journey at GOSH started in May 2018, with one central question: ‘if you were a superhero, how would you imagine yourself?’.

Best-selling London comic book artist, Amrit Birdi, then visited the hospital to capture these answers and sketch out each child’s imagination onto a page. These sketches, unbeknown to the children, were transformed into real-life costumes by children’s costume studio, Atelier Spatz. As soon as the costumes were ready, Superhope and GOSH surprised the children with their bespoke costumes, as well as a professional photo and video shoot.

Escape Studios is proud to have been involved with the GOSHxSuperhope project, which also included a number of industry partners, notably, Cinesite, Nvisible, The Foundry, Otoy, Creation Effects, Panalux and Pendulum Pictures. Led by Escapee Roy Pecker, Escape Studios staff and students provided support and worked on the VFX shots for the short film, showcasing the superheroes and their powers.

Once the video shoot was complete, Roy and a host of Escape Studios students set to work creating the world and effects. A number of other Escapees were involved in the project too, including:

  • Jonas Grebler
  • Roberto Valent
  • Virag Pazmany
  • Matthew Wight
  • Hywin Frances
  • Klaudija Cermak
  • Demetris Aparicio
  • Danial Thompson
  • Zsofia Lele

Escape Studios staff who also helped out on the project included:

  • Allar Kaasik, Tutor
  • Sofia Caldeira, Aftercare Coordinator
  • Russell Honeywell, Videographer

The film was launched at GOSH on 1st October 2018 and screened across cinemas in Dubai, UAE and Kuwait.
