Thoughts on the future of VFX?
With the crazy amount of work out there I think VFX work isn't going to slow down anytime soon. VR is slowly making a comeback and it might bring exciting new depths to the industry but for now I'm just blown away but how TV and Advertising have just as good effects as Film does even with their tighter schedules. So I guess the future will be more work in less time.
What was the moment you knew you wanted to be in the creative industries?
Jurassic Park. As soon as that Brachiosaurus appeared I knew I wanted to be a part of this industry. I still get goosebumps everytime I watch it. There's really no limitations on what you can achieve.
What were your first impressions?/What are the biggest challenges of being a woman in the VFX industry?
I started as a runner at Dneg and worked my way up. You never stop being overwhelmed by the amount of talented people around you and how nice everyone is. There's a need for more female artists in this industry but the gap is slowly being closed which is nice to see.
What was your breakthrough project?
The first project that I worked on from start to finish was the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Which was quite a nice breakthrough project to work on and the team was great.
Have you had any mentors along the way?
Basically everyone I've had the pleasure of working with. Everyone knows so much about something which makes everyday the chance to exchange information and tips. We all share what we know and that's very useful.
Who inspires you?
I actually work with one of the first generation's Escapee. Donna Feek. She's amazing in every way. She has a great eye for detail. She pushes me past the "this is good enough" into the "this is great". Basically makes me push myself into becoming a better artist.
