Two members of the Escape Studios’ alumni community (dubbed ‘Escapees’) were involved in the visual effects production on the compelling story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, First Man.
Beating Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, this award makes First Man the 4th academy award for visual effects in the last five years for Double Negative - joining their awards for Interstellar (2015), Ex-Machina (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2018).
The 91st Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California on Sunday 24th February 2019 and the award was accepted by visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert.
“This is so surreal; my 15 minutes of fame seems to have carried on for another 15 minutes. This is a fantastic occasion in that we’ve been honored for the actual process, which we talked about endlessly. The fact that we’ve been honored by the Academy is truly magnificent.”
A huge congratulations to the team at DNeg and all the awesome artists who helped bring re-tell the tale of the first man on the moon.
