Escape Studios has been shortlisted for a Whatuni Student Choice Award 2019, in the Independent HE category. This award is for the best all-round private university across all areas of student life, according to the students who left their reviews. The awards are voted for by students and show what students really think of their studying experiences. The shortlist for this award recognises the commitment of the student experience and teaching team that work together to help immerse our students into life at Escape Studios.
The awards will be hosted on 25 April 2019 in London. This is the sixth annual Student Choice Awards and over the course of the evening there will be 15 winners from the university experience award categories. The evening will be presented by award winning stand-up comedian, Omid Djalili. Find out more about the WUSCAs.
Over the past 12 months the student experience team has been very busy! We welcomed artists from The Mill, Framestore, Creative Assembly and Walt Disney Animation to host an evening with... events. Students have visited studios head offices for Blue Zoo Animation, Peerless VFX, The Mill, Framstore, The 3rd Floor, DNeg and ILM. Other events that the student experience team and studio assistants have put on include; Movie Club (which has featured industry speakers including Pixar Animator, Royce Wesley and Escapee German Diaz), Unreal Tournament, Pancake Day, Turn It Up, Another One Rides the Bus, Drawing Club, Shepherd's Bush: The Final Render and Star Wars: The Last Jedi film screening and Q&A. We also held our annual student showcase in February for our short course students and for the first time it also featured our final year undergraduate students work. The showcase received positive feedback from everyone who attended including our industry partners.
The number of students who enter the awards are growing year on year and in 2019 the team collected: 41,81 reviews; 160 institutions participated. Monisha Sooba, Project Coordinator of the review collection team, said that the scale of this year’s collection process kept her team on the go for a full six months. She added: “It was a busy time for us visiting campuses around the UK and talking to students about their studying experiences. My team and I found the work particularly inspiring, especially knowing that we’re contributing to helping students make more informed decisions about the right universities and courses for them.”
At Escape Studios industry engagement is at the core of everything that we do, it’s why we do things differently and it’s what sets us apart. We set our students industry-designed briefs, so they gain experience of responding to real-world scenarios during their studies. We also help them to build their professional networks; they’re taught by well-connected industry experts that have worked on the likes of The Dark Knight, the Lion King and Harry Potter, plus games for multiple PlayStation titles, so they get a real insight into the creative industries. We also work with an Advisory Board of industry experts from the likes of Framestore, MPC, Cinesite, Double Negative, Dreamworks Animation and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe who support the development of our programmes and support aspiring talent. Over the past year our students have worked on industry designed projects including The Last of London, The Order 1886 and VR by Framestore.
