Rookie Awards rank Escape Studios team second in the world for Immersive Media 

A team of students from Escape Studios have been announced as runners up in the 'Game of the Year' category for Immersive Media at the 2020 Rookie Awards, placing their work first in the UK and Europe and second in the world.

Within their game, Aspen Lane: VR Paranormal Investigation, users play as a paranormal investigator called to uncover evidence of a malicious hunting within a family home in North London. The primary focus for Immersive Media is games designed to be played with headsets- VR, AR, MR- and judges were looking for completed games.  

The Team was led by Escape Studios Games student Michael Neocleous, who commented: "I am incredibly happy to say that Aspen Lane, our final year VR project was announced as runner-up. I am so incredibly proud of the team, they all worked so hard during those 12 weeks and it couldn't be more deserved".  

The Rookie Awards is an annual contest that is open to young creative in visual effects, animation, games, virtual reality, motion graphics and 3D visualisation. The contest is open to amateur artists with less than 1 year of professional experience in their chosen category. This year, the 10th annual Rookie Awards was highly-competitive, with 3769 entries from 524 schools, hailing from 88 countries. There was also 58, 552 media uploaded for the 26 categories.

Escape Studios offer undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses in Visual Effects (VFX), Game Art, Animation and Motion Graphics. Students get the opportunity to work in industry-style studios using the latest tools and techniques and working as part of a team on high quality creative projects. They have intensive, hands-on tutorials with industry-trained tutors, who alongside creative professionals will provide regular feedback on students’ work.
