Saint John Walker from Escape Studios to host a virtual conversation with Peter Ramsey, Director at Sony Pictures Animation
The VFX Festival, organised by Escape Studios, is partnering with the international VIEW Conference to host a virtual conversation with acclaimed Director Peter Ramsey, taking place on 29 August 2020.
As part of IV’s PreVIEW, Saint John Walker, Deputy Dean/Director at Escape Studios, will host the conversation with Peter Ramsay who will talk about his career and work on the Academy Award® winning feature film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The virtual event is free of charge and will commence at 6pm UK time on Saturday 29 August; registration for tickets is available here.
Peter Ramsey most recently directed with Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman on Sony Pictures Animation's latest feature film, the Academy Award® winner Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. For his work on the film, he has received an Annie Award from ASIFA-Hollywood for Outstanding Achievement for Directing in an Animated Feature Production.
Previously, he directed DreamWorks Animation's 2012 feature film Rise of the Guardians. He also helmed the Halloween TV special, Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space as well as served as a story artist on several of DreamWorks Animation's feature films.
Prior to joining DreamWorks, he worked as a storyboard artist on a notable number of live action feature films, including Backdraft, Boyz n the Hood, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Minority Report, Cast Away, Independence Day, Being John Malkovich, Fight Club and Hulk, among many others. Ramsey's directing skills were honed early, as Second Unit Director on live action feature films including Godzilla, Tank Girl, Higher Learning and Poetic Justice. A lifelong resident of Los Angeles, California, Peter grew up in the Crenshaw area, and graduated from Palisades High School before attending UCLA.
Saint John Walker has been working at the interface between the animation, computer games, and visual effects industries and higher education, with a mission to produce better quality talent to feed the UK's creative industries. Saint has been authoring and updating the well-respected Core Skills of VFX Handbook and Student Primer. As a member of Access:VFX, Saint has worked on a number of projects to encourage more diversity and inclusion in visual effects and animation. Saint has designed and run courses, written articles, mentored, led and managed a range of industry facing education ventures.

Escape Studios offer undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses in Visual Effects (VFX), Game Art, Animation and Motion Graphics. Students get the opportunity to work in industry-style studios using the latest tools and techniques and working as part of a team on high quality creative projects. They have intensive, hands-on tutorials with industry-trained tutors, who alongside creative professionals will provide regular feedback on students’ work.
