Two Escape Studios student films shortlisted for the 2021 Rookies Awards
Escape Studios has announced that two of their student-made short films have been shortlisted for this year’s Rookies Awards.
Now in its 11th year, The Rookies Awards are open to young, aspiring creatives who are interested in pursuing careers in animation, games, virtual reality, motion graphics and 3D visualisation. The annual contest aims to commend young talent by giving artists with less than one year of professional experience a platform to showcase their work.
“Kiwi’s Dream” is an animated short film completed by students as part of their Studio Project module where they are given three months to take the project from initial pitch to final render. The short story follows a group of origami animals dreaming of the world outside and has won fourteen festival awards to date.
Directed by Eilin Berrio Pena, produced by Nickoel Izharudin
“Malloe” is another short film that was produced by third-year students. The short film is about two children who find a very unusual creature living in the forest.
Dean of Escape Studios, Ian Palmer said: "We are incredibly proud to hear that Escape Studios' student projects have made it to the finals of The Rookies yet again. I would personally like to congratulate the students on the professionalism and resilience they have shown over the past year. They have gone the extra mile under difficult circumstances which is reflected heavily in the quality of their projects and I have no doubt that they will continue to flourish in their professional careers. A huge thank you also goes out to our staff and industry partners who have and continue to provide invaluable guidance, support, and feedback to our students.”
The winners are set to be announced on 27th July 2021.
