Why choose this course

  • All-round creative skills - you'll study common modules in your first year to gain an understanding of visual effects, animation and game art and how those discipline work together.
  • Team work - you'll work on projects as a team, just as you would in the studio, providing you with a good understanding of the VFX pipeline by sharing skills across disciplines.
  • Industry-standard studios - you'll work in a studio environment that mirrors current industry practice from day one, using professional software such as Maya and ZBrush, to give you a true taste of life in a studio.
  • Soft skills - you'll learn soft skills such as team work, organisation, giving and receiving feedback to prepare you to the real world of work.
  • Expert tutors - you'll have intensive, hands-on tutorials with industry-trained tutors such as our Head of 3D VFX, Mark Spevick, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry working on the likes of Casino Royale. All our tutors can help turn your passion for visual effects into a practical studio-ready skillset.
  • Industry briefs - in the studio, you'll work on industry-standard briefs, similar to those you'll get in a professional studio. You'll experience real-life scenarios, such as dealing with briefs with varying requirements, deadlines and resources.
  • Developed with industry professionals - this programme has been developed in collaboration with experienced industry leaders such as DNEG (Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel), and MPC (The Lion King and 1917 (winner of seven BAFTA awards and the Oscar for VFX)).
  • Specialisms - 2D vs. 3D: in second year, you will be introduced to both 2D Compositing for VFX and 3D for VFX. Your first term will provide the opportunity to try each specialism, so you can decide which you enjoy most and which best lends itself to your skillset. You will receive full support from our tutors and feedback from industry professionals to guide your decision on which specialism you will take forward in to the remainder of your degree.

I applied to Escape Studios because of their industry connections, so when I got nominated and won a scholarship from Paul Franklin, I knew that this was one of the many industry opportunities I'd get through Escape Studios.
