International Conference on Sports Economics and Sport Management, Oslo, Norway.
With the amount of money in English association football ever increasing, this paper intends to investigate what impact this may have had on local economies, by investigating the impact of promotions and regulations through the English Football League system. Mixed methods were utilised in order to understand quantitative results and as such, no empirical evidence was found to support a correlation between football club performance and changes in regional disposable income in the associated region. A subsequent semi-structured interview with the Commercial Director of Watford Football Club investigated and found evidence to support these findings.
