Emily Lawrence

Tell us a little bit about you?

I am a Student Recruitment Assistant on the International Rotational Degree Apprenticeship.

What are you studying?

BA (Hons) Business Management

Where are you working?

I work in the External Relations department at Pearson College London in the Student Recruitment Team.

Why did you choose a Degree Apprenticeship?

I wanted to get real life experience and a degree at the same time. For me, it was the best of both worlds as I am a practical learner so it means I can apply everything I learn straight into my job. I also wanted to get straight into working rather than continuing studying full time for another 3 years as I think first-hand industry experience is the best qualification you can have.

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

So far, I have enjoyed conducting my own research project the most as it has been very interesting to research an area in which I am interested and relates directly to my work. There has been lots of time and effort put into it which makes the course module very rewarding when you reach an outcome.

What have you learnt so far during your work placement?

I have learnt that in a business environment, you need to be very adaptable to change and flexible within your role. To be able to make the most out of your job for both you and the company, you need to be flexible with timings and roles your allocated and make the most of opportunities that are given.

How has your placement helped you with your studies?

My placement has helped me put into practice the things I am learning throughout my studies and how / why different business operate differently. It has also allowed me to gather industry experience to apply to my studies and get expert industry advice on things that I am studying such as where and why business implement certain strategies.

Do you have any advice for anyone applying for a degree apprenticeship?

It is important to make sure that the degree course suits you and is something your really passionate about and are interested in studying.

In addition, it is essential to make sure the job role is suited to you.
