Harry Sheehan

Tell us a little bit about you?

My name is Harry Sheehan, I am 18 from Somerset. I have recently moved to London in order to study this Degree Apprenticeship. I studied A-levels in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

What are you studying?

BA (Hons) Business Management

Where are you working?

Pearson College London as Student Experience Assistant.

Why did you choose a Degree Apprenticeship?

While looking at options other than university I saw my degree apprenticeship on Not Going To Uni. Upon reading up on degree apprenticeships I soon found that they actually suited my learning style much better than going through the traditional degree pathway.

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

Having never studied a business subject so far in my education, everything we are learning is brand new to me. Luckily all of my tutors are great at explaining new concepts and are happy to repeat sections if someone is struggling to understand.

How has your placement helped you with your studies?

Each week when coming to the seminar, I find that there is a work situation that applies to the topic we are studying and this helps me understand the topic so much easier. On the flip side, what I am learning in the class room allows me to perform better at work, they really both come hand in hand.

Do you have any advice for anyone applying for a degree apprenticeship?

Even if you’re not sure if it’s the option you want to pursue, put your all into the application process because it is honestly a fantastic opportunity to learn even if you are unsuccessful. During the application process do as much pre-work as you can so when it comes to each stage you’re ready for whatever is involved, this includes information about the company itself, it never hurts to do background research!
