Niamh Mulhall

Tell us a little bit about you?

My name is Niamh, I am 19 years old, and I am studying a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship at Pearson College London.

What are you studying?

BA (Hons) Business Management

Where are you working?

Pearson College London as Data and Insights Assistant.

Why did you choose a Degree Apprenticeship?

After deciding A-levels weren’t for me I completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship: I loved the idea of working and studying as I enjoy being busy! When my employer said they were unable to offer the Level 4 Apprenticeship, I looked elsewhere and came across Pearson College London. I applied but was sure I wouldn’t be successful; therefore, a month or so later was ecstatic when I got the offer!

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

Being able to get straight into the content and start learning immediately. The support is great also, your peers and work colleagues as well as tutors are there whenever you need them to provide advice and guidance.

What have you learnt so far during your work placement?

My role as an apprentice is suited towards my studies, therefore some of my work projects benefit my University projects and vice versa. I have learnt a lot about wider Business in general especially working within a FTSE 100 company.

How has your placement helped you with your studies?

They are the same subject, I work within the Marketing team and one of my topics at University is marketing so it makes studying and revising slightly easier, as not only do you have to learn the content for your essays but also to do your job. I think being surrounded by professionals and business-minded people encourages you to want to study harder and achieve highe

Do you have any advice for anyone applying for a degree apprenticeship?

Be patient and do your research, a degree apprenticeship is an amazing opportunity and you need to show the employer that your the right person for the job. It is a highly competitive market and you need to ‘wow’ the Interviewer to be recognised.
