Toni Pitts

Tell us a little bit about you?

I have worked at Pearson for almost 12 years, starting in the Primary sector, during term time to work around my family. I am an Internal Sales Manager of two teams: one in Harlow and one in Manchester working with Worked Based Learning and FE Colleges

What are you studying?

BA (Hons) Business Management

Where are you working?

I am based in Harlow as part of the BTEC & Apprenticeships division, but work in Manchester with my second team and visit various offices throughout Pearson.

Why did you choose a Degree Apprenticeship?

I have completed three apprenticeships with Pearson. Customer Service at Level 2, Team Leader at Level 3 and Management at Level 4. Therefore, the progression to a degree just seemed to be the next level in expanding my knowledge and expertise within my role.

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

I have enjoyed the opportunity to expand my knowlege and progress within the company.

What have you learnt so far during your work placement?

As part of my degree, I have taken the opportunity during the summer break to shadow the Legal department in the Strand and the Marketing department in Oxford which has been invaluable to my progression and understanding of the modules I am currently learning.

How has your placement helped you with your studies?

Placements are invaluable to see what other departments work like and understand the challenges they face.

Do you have any advice for anyone applying for a degree apprenticeship?

Do not become complacent, this is not an easy journey. You can be learning up to 10 hours a week sometimes, but the rewards are high. Always make sure you set time aside for your studies, but also for a your social life. Use the help offered, use your mentor and ask people to look at your work - feedback is constructive.
