Charles Day, Business School Tutor
Charles trained as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. He then moved to London and subsequently Australia working in various auditing and management accounting roles and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant. Charles then worked as a management consultant, primarily for Deloitte Consulting, specialising in finance systems and processes. He moved to Canada and returned to an accounting focus as a Policy and Controls Lead for a large US oil and gas producer. During this time, he qualified as a Certified Public Accountant. Before returning to the UK Charles worked in a management reporting role for an energy services provider.His experience therefore spans several countries, industries and the main disciplines within accounting - external and internal audit, reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, finance processes and systems, accounting policies, and internal controls.
This experience is directly related to the areas he teaches – financial accounting, management reporting, and assurance and risk management.Prior to embarking on his teaching career with Pearson was involved in developing and delivering several training initiatives during the course of his career in professional services and industry. These initiatives included finance systems and processes, accounting policy, controls, and finance for operations personnel. Charles is currently working towards a Masters in Accounting Science to obtain a grounding in accounting research.
His proposed research topic is asset and goodwill impairments. He plans to follow this with a PhD. His broad interest is the impact of accounting information and disclosures on equity valuations.
