Richard has a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Applied Linguistics, both from King’s College London, as well as a DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) from Cambridge English, part of the University of Cambridge. He became an English language teacher in 1996 and has worked as a Teacher, Teacher Trainer and Director of Studies in Singapore, Spain, New Zealand, and Norway.
Since arriving back in the UK Richard has worked in Higher Education as an English language examiner, EAP and Study Skills tutor and curriculum designer at Trinity College, London, University College London, and London South Bank University.
Richard's areas of expertise include Critical Discourse Analysis, Academic writing and helping students transition from secondary to tertiary education. He hopes as Study Skills Tutor to encourage students at Pearson College London to engage in reflective learning practices, increase their learner autonomy and grasp with both hands the numerous learning opportunities available to all students. He is a strong believer in the merits of a dialogic pedagogy in which learning is constant and multi-directional.
When not working, Richard enjoys spending time with his children and following the fortunes of Liverpool FC.
