Industry Conference at Savills

Industry Conference at Savills

Industry Partner Workshop at Savills

Our students kicked off their termly Industry Conference with a visit to Savills, a leading global property company and member of the FTSE 250. Find out how they got on from Abbas Ali, one of our Student Co-creators.

We arrived at the head office of Savills, a short walk from Oxford Circus. After being welcomed in at Savills they took us into their canteen, which was absolutely stunning, for some breakfast before the event started at 9am so we all treated ourselves! After breakfast we were given a talk by Ema Saunders, Director, People Development, Savills UK in which she outlined the ethics, responsibilities and more importantly what life is like as an employee working for Savills. I was so impressed with the way Savills look after their employees in such a professional and personal manner.

Ema then set the stage for employees at Savills to come and speak to us and give us their insight into what it’s like to work for a global real estate service provider. This ranged from Human Resource Managers and Directors to Chartered Surveyors and recent graduates. What I really took away from these presentations is the passion and enthusiasm every single Savills employee has for the organization. After the presentations were concluded Savills organized a networking lunch for the Pearson College students to speak to the current graduates and get a further insight into what it’s like working for this global real estate business. Speaking to the graduates you could really feel their eagerness from working at Savills rub off on you because they were so positive that they were really building their foundation for progression at Savills.

Following lunch Ema Saunders then spoke to us about internship and graduate opportunities at Savills. The Pearson College students were then introduced to a marketing competition to be completed next year, with the winner being offered an internship opportunity. This for me is invaluable because we are being given a marketing task and this will in return prepare us in advance for our marketing module next term.

This event really helped me with my future career plans because getting so many diverse perspectives from the employees at Savills and the advice they gave me was fantastic because they had been there as graduates. One quote I took away from the day was from a Chartered Surveyor, ‘always show your eagerness and willingness to succeed in the workplace’. You could tell the Savills employees carry this quote out every day because their enthusiasm and spirit from working at Savills was incredible.
