Meet Our Students

Reel Time Art, Pearson College London students

By Sophie Preece, first year Pearson Business School student

What I love about Pearson College London is the diverse range of students that we have. Some people have come straight from school whist others have been working or running their own businesses and some are even parents. As for me, I decided to take a year out after leaving school and worked with IBM on their Gap Year scheme where I was based in Preston with the Department for Work and Pensions.

This blog provides just a flavour to demonstrate the diverse backgrounds and ambitions our students have. I asked 4 current students what they were doing before coming here, why did they decide to join Pearson College London, how they’ve found their studies so far and what they hope to pursue once they graduate…

Jordan (19) Business Management with Global Industries

What were you doing before Pearson College London?
I came straight from completing my A-levels at Harton Technology College in South Shields.

Why did you decide to study at Pearson College London?
I decided to take the challenge and move into the big city, Pearson College London offered me their support in helping me take this huge leap from the North East of England to London. I chose Pearson College over other universities in London as it offered me amazing industry opportunities, and the chance to meet many connections. I had the mind-set that pursuing a degree at Pearson College London would give me the best chance at pursuing my dream job in marketing.

How have you found your studies so far?
Pearson College London has exceeded my initial expectations, the course content has balanced the modern business world such as App Design and Analytics with the traditional principles within Business. I have enjoyed learning about each aspect within business studies then applying what I have learnt during industry events and workshops. Since starting in September I have been fortunate enough to work with senior employees at L'Oreal, Direct Line, British American Tobacco, Salesforce, Bell Pottinger, and Lloyds.

What do you want to do after graduating?
I would like to pursue a career within a global marketing team, I would love to work abroad and within a country in the developing world.

Mimi (28) Business and Enterprise Top-Up

What were you doing before Pearson College London?
I was studying for a Diploma in Business Management at the University of Wolverhampton.

Why did you decide to study at Pearson College London?
I found Pearson College London during clearing. I was looking for a Top-Up course and they seemed to be the only place offering one.

How have you found your studies so far?
I find the expectations are higher here because they want you to work hard and attend classes but there are so many extra activities available to boost your learning. It feels like an affordable buffet of Michelin star food! I came in not knowing what I want to do, now I have many ideas from attending industry days and workshops with external businesses. Pearson College London practice what they teach by providing us with lecturers who know their subject inside and out, and their passion shine through and rubs off during the learning experience making it so much easier for knowledge to stick. An amazing place to study!

What do you want to do after graduating?
I hope to train and work as a careers advisor and eventually become a career coach or work in talent development.

Ben (26) Business Management and Finance

What were you doing before Pearson College London?
I studied Horticulture and Design at the University of Lincoln. Whilst I was there I also worked as the Commercial Manager at the city’s largest leisure centre. After my degree I designed and built gardens in the UK and Czech Republic and successfully won a gardening contract with the UK’s leading deaf and blind charity ‘Sense’, building sensory gardens. Inspired by the Red Arrows at home in Lincoln, I was also working towards achieving my private pilot’s license.

Why did you decide to study at Pearson College London?
I decided to study with Pearson over other Universities as I genuinely felt they cared about me and my career prospects and that I wasn't just a number.

How have you found your studies so far?
My studies so far have really exceeded my expectations! Lecturers are extremely passionate about what they teach and really do bring sessions to life whilst preparing us for the opportunities in the outside world.

What do you want to do after graduating?
Use the experience and skills from my time at Pearson to pursue a career in the finance sector but I’m open to many other opportunities. I also hope to complete my private pilot’s license.

Paloma (19) Business and Enterprise

What were you doing before Pearson College London?
I came straight from Bolton Schools Girls’ Division Sixth Form, Manchester, after my A-levels.

Why did you decide to study at Pearson College London?
I decided to study at Pearson College London as I wanted something far beyond what the traditional university has to offer. I was attracted to the corporate environment that comes with studying at 80 Strand and the formality and professionalism that was encouraged of the students, a far better student experience in my opinion.

How have you found your studies so far?
Now in my second term here at Pearson College London it is clear that choosing to study here was absolutely the best decision for me. The Business & Enterprise course covers such a wide spectrum of all aspects of business, ideal preparation for starting a company in the future. Pearson College London is everything I expected and more and I would love to encourage more students to choose something different and study here.

What do you want to do after graduating?
I’m driven by entrepreneurship but also have a strong interest in Property Development which I would like to pursue.
