By third year Pearson Business School student, Sophie Preece
This summer I was fortunate enough to spend two months on an internship with Golar LNG Limited. An international firm with an office based in Tower Hill.
Golar are in the liquified natural gas (LNG) industry and are mainly focused on the midstream processes of the storage and transportation of LNG. However, over recent months they have formed joint ventures with two companies to enter the upstream processes of drilling and the downstream processes of power generation. Golar is one of the world’s largest independent owners and operators of LNG carriers. Their fleet also comprises of floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) and floating liquified natural gas carriers (FLNG).
There were two aspects that I assisted with over the course of the internship. The first was with the upstream project known as OneLNG where I was helping with research and putting together a unit chart converter to assist with the different types of measurements that were used. The second was working on the redevelopment of the company website.
I was responsible for the collation of the content and organising meetings with the external partners who were physically creating the new website.
Over the two months, I most enjoyed carrying out more research on the industry as I didn’t know much about it prior to starting as well as, getting to know and working with the teams in the office.
Doing an internship over the summer is something that I highly recommend, no matter how small or large the company is. Not only have I experienced how another type of company works but I have also had the chance to grow my network and gain a useful insight into a different industry.
