Agnes Collier, a final year Pearson Business School student shares her experience.
Saatchi and Saatchi is the world's third largest communications group specialising in the advertising of many household brands. For the past four years I have been taking part in summer internships at their global headquarters in London!
My role during each of my internships was within the account management team. This involves handling the relationships between the client and the different functions of the advertising process within Saatchi and Saatchi, e.g. submitting creative ideas to the client and discussing how best to implement these. During my time here I have worked with companies such as Head and Shoulders, Toyota, Pampers and HSBC.
As part of this experience I have learnt a great deal, both from the perspective of how large businesses operate and also with regards to the specifics of what is involved in a career in advertising. Working within an agency poses the interesting challenge of trying to communicate/sell ideas to a client to try and get them adopted, whilst understanding that often opinions vary and compromises need to be developed to accommodate for this.
My highlight during my time at Saatchi and Saatchi was being given the autonomy to gather information from a client briefing meeting and communicate this to the creatives to develop into a new advert.
This opportunity has equipped me with many skills that I will take forward with me when i graduate. The three most prevalent of these would be: the ability to present to large clients, the ability to take on briefs and develop reports/presentations efficiently with a limited knowledge base and finally the ability to quickly integrate into a new team and develop effective working relationships.
