Jade Mountain, Head of Digital Content at Pearson College London and Danny O’Connor E-Learning Consultant were delighted to host Steve Hoole, a Customer Success Advocate from Blackboard this week at 190 High Holborn. Blackboard is a global leading provider of enterprise software applications and related services for learning and development and normally Steve’s role involves him going out to institutions to help them achieve their potential in using Blackboard.
However after seeing the impressive customisations we had made to our Pearson College Blackboard interface he wanted to come and learn more so that he could share with a wider UK audience.
Jade and Danny explained that their approach had been to start with an idea of what they wanted from the VLE (virtual learning environment) and not be constrained by what they thought could be done – “this allowed us to be more creative” said Jade, “we said, “we want this” and it never occurred to us that we might not be able to have it that way; we just built it and didn’t let the thought that it might not be doable enter our minds”.
As a relatively new institution, Pearson College London has seen a huge change in the look and feel of their VLE over the academic year and achieved considerably more than many larger institutions have achieved over much longer periods of time.
Steve’s goal was to learn how we had managed to build and customise our various Blackboard pages and then go back to the Blackboard community and share good practice with them. It was a pleasure to show him how we work and how we have approached this project in the spirit embodied by Pearson College London which is one of the most exciting and innovative areas of our company.
