Pearson College London offers free support for NHS during COVID-19 pandemic
In the last two months, students and staff at Pearson College London have lent their business and creative expertise to projects to support the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Colleagues from across the College at Pearson Business School and Escape Studios, as well as students, have supported important training sessions and provided technical knowledge on initiatives related to COVID-19, in order to help both medical professionals and non-clinical managers across the NHS.
One of the initiatives was an exclusive webinar series for NHS managers, which focused on leadership in a crisis, hosted by Lisa Giles, Director at the College’s Centre for Industry Engagement. The sessions featured panellists from business, military and humanitarian organisations, who shared insight on their experience as leaders from a different perspective as well as providing reassurance during this crisis. Speakers came from a range of organisations including BP, IBM, TFL, EY, SIG plc, Guys and St Thomas NHS Trust and Health Education England.
The sessions provided attendees in both clinical and non-clinical roles with important learnings on leadership and resilience during times of crisis, as well as advice on mental health and wellbeing. Originally for our NHS partners in London, the webinars eventually welcomed participants from over 20 Trusts around the UK.
At Escape Studios, tutors and students from the Storyboarding and Animation courses have been working with a team of healthcare professionals and technologists from VR training company Medical Realities. They produced a ‘Basic Life Support’ (BLS) training video for NHS Volunteers who are having to deal with COVID-19 cases.
The course was created by Animation Programme Leader Michael Davies, with detailed Storyboard work by Storyboard tutor Iliana Franklin, in consultation with various doctors and surgeons to make sure details and procedures were medically correct. Escape Studios used a mixture of Maya and Unreal Engine to achieve the end result, which was completed within two weeks.
